Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev is ending his tour to Belgium and France. During the trip, he met top EU officials (EU president Jose Manuel Barroso) as well as Belgium and Luxemburg PMs, NATO chief and French president. The main aim of the visit was to demonstrate growing role of Kazakhstan. In an interview ahead of the trip, Nazarbayev urged the EU to engage more in Central Asia and stressed that Kazakhstan is the most stable country in the region. Another goal was to invite European and NATO leaders to attend the OSCE summit to be held in Astana in early December. To remind you, Kazakh president personally supported the idea of the Kazakh presidency in the OSCE and the organization's summit in Astana. Nazarbayev was also lobbying for European investments in the Kazakh economy, worth noting no in the energy sector but in transportation and high-tech technologies as the recent deals with France show (see the story below).
