Italian metallurgical firm Metalleghe plans EUR 30mn investment in Bosnia.

Italys Metalleghe plans to invest EUR 30mn in silicon metal manufacturing in Bosnias Serb Republic, the Republics government said in a statement. The investment will comprise the construction of a furnace and supporting facilities that would enable the production in the western town of Mrkonjic Grad. Metalleghe representatives and officials from the Republics government and the Mrkonjic Grad municipality will sign a letter of intent on the project on Sept 6. Construction works could start by the end of the year and the production line is expected to go on stream 24 months after that. Metalleghe produces carbon recarburizers and ferroalloy briquettes for iron foundry and in the marketing of ferroalloys. The company has been present in Bosnia since 2004 and already has three electric furnaces for silicon metal production there, according to information on its website. It exports the Bosnian output to Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany, Slovakia and Poland for the production of aluminium and silicone alloys.
