Hungarian lawmakers have approved a proposal, submitted by the ruling coalition Fidesz-KDNP, on constitutional amendments regarding pre-registration of voters ahead of the elections, MTI news agency informed. Under the law, pre-registration of voting-age nationals will be possible until 15 days before a given election and the registration will be valid for three elections - general, local and EU elections. A candidate will be able to register for future elections if he fails to do so for the first election. As regard to the reform in Hungarys election system, the authorities plan also to establish the National Elections Centre, which will function as an autonomous body within the public administration system. It will be in charge of making arrangements for and facilitating the election process.
