European Parliament approves visa free travel for Bosnian citizens.

By bne IntelliNews October 8, 2010
The European Parliament (EP) approved the proposal of the European Commission (EC) which grants visa free travel to the citizens of Bosnia and Albania with 538 votes in favour, 47 against and 41 in abstention, the EP said on its website. EP congratulated Bosnian and Albanian authorities for having fulfilled the requirements embedded in the Road map for visa liberalisation, namely for having adopted the EU standards in the area of justice, freedom and security. Thus, the EP recommended to the Council of the EU, namely to the respective ministers of the EU 27 member states, to approve the EC proposal as well. If the EU member states approve the proposal, the citizens of Bosnia will be able to travel with biometric passports to the Schengen countries without a visa. European Commissioner for EU home affairs Cecilia Malmstrom expects that the EU member states would approve a decision on non-visa regime to the two countries already in November. Bosnia and Albania have lagged behind Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, which have already been approved for entering the white Schengen list. Central government PM Nikola Spiric praised the EP decision and the Bosnian authorities efforts in fulfilling the roadmap requirements. However, some unofficial sources point out that some EU member states, France, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands and Sweden, in particular, might demand additional guarantees before deciding positively on the visa liberalisation for Bosnia and Albania.
