EU gives logistical support for managing floods in Northern Albania.

Several EU member states have responded to the request of Albanian government for international assistance to manage the damages of floods in the Northern part of the country. The EU has sent an expert team under the Community Civil Protection Mechanism, to help in the assessment of relief needs and the coordination of incoming assistance. The team comprises specialist form Austria , Germany , the Netherlands , Greece , Slovenia as well as Danish expert of the UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination. Moreover, the countries provided a total of 38 water pumps, 21 power generators, specialised vehicles and medicines. In addition Italian government sent 2 helicopters CH47, while Greek authorities deployed 35 firefighters and military troops specialized in the rapid intervention in cases of emergency. The latest data update provided by the interior ministry shows that a total of 10,000 hectares of land in Skodra region is flooded, the number of houses affected reached some 2,473, while a total of 4,755 people have been evacuated so far. The government is yet to evaluate the damages and provide the respective financial compensations, minster of finance Ridvan Bode said. Meanwhile, chairman of the committee of the big river dams, Farudin Hoxha informed that all dams on river Drin cascade are safe and there is no risk of collapse. He expressed optimism that the situation in the cascade will improve soon.
