The European Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for the Czech Republic to receive money from the EU Structural Funds under the R&D for Innovations operational programme by six years, deputy regional development minister Daniel Braun announced. Originally, the country was to draw the money by 2011. Thanks to the extended deadline for drawing the funds, local researchers would not lose the opportunity to receive up to CZK 6.5bn for their projects, Braun elaborated. Under the R&D for Innovations operational programme, which is aimed at providing financing for projects of research centres, universities and R&D companies, some CZK 60bn are available from the EU Structural Funds. So far 14 projects have been supported under the programme. The country has 8 thematic and 7 regional operational programmes, as well as 2 operational programmes for the city of Prague. The Czech Republic is entitled to EUR 26.7bn subsidies from EU Structural Funds until 2013. As of end-June 2010 (since May 1, 2004) the country's net benefit from the EU budget amounts to CZK 120.2bn with payments to the budget amounting to CZK 201.1bn and receipts from it - to CZK 321.3bn.
