The unemployment rate in the Czech Republic edged up to 8.4% in September 2012 after staying at 8.3% for two straight months, data from the labour ministry showed. The figure was slightly higher than the 8.3% expected by economists in a CTK newswire survey. In September 2011, the jobless rate in the country stood at 8%. Unemployment among women stayed at the August level of 10.2%, while among men it rose to 7.1% in September from 6.9% in August. Job vacancies in September fell by 1,750 on the month to 40,809. On an annual basis, however, they were higher by 1,014. The number of jobseekers registered at the employment offices increased by 6,492 on the month and by 18,070 from a year ago to 493,185 people last month. Thus, there were 12.1 jobseekers per vacancy, compared to 11.4 a month ago. In September 2012, the number of available job seekers, showing how many people registered as unemployed by labour offices are able to start work shortly, stood at 478,548.
