Czech car sales rise 3.3% in Jan-Oct 2012.

Sales of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic increased by 3.3% y/y to 147,022 units in the first ten months of 2012, data from the Car Importers Association showed. In October alone, sales increased by 7.4% on the year to 15,963 units, following a 3.9% fall in September, when 12,475 cars were sold. Skoda Auto kept its leading position with a market share of 31% and sales of 45,552 cars in January to October 2012, up 3.5% y/y. Hyundai was second with a market share of 8.7% and selling 12,853 cars, or 34.7% more than in the first ten months of 2011. Third was Volkswagen holding a market share of 8.6%. Sales of light commercial vehicles in January to October 2012 were 10.4% lower on the year at 9,338 units as market leader in this segment was Volkswagen selling 1,704 units. Truck sales also decreased but at the slower rate of 6.4% to 6,028 units. Bus sales dropped by 8.2% y/y to 573 and sales of motorcycles declined at the same pace to 14,483 in Jan-Oct 2012.
