Czech biogas stations witness fastest growth of all renewables in 2011.

By bne IntelliNews February 1, 2012
Biogas stations witnessed the fastest growth of all renewable energy sources in the Czech Republic last year, CTK newswire reported citing data from the energy regulator ERU. The installed output of biogas stations in the country increased by 63MW to 168MW and their number rose by 84 to 264. New solar plants with an installed output of only 6MW were licensed by ERU in 2011 and the total capacity of such plants reached 1,959MW. For comparison in 2010 the installed output of solar power plants more than quadrupled to 1,953MW. The slowdown is a result of the reduced state support for the industry after the solar boom in 2010 boosted significantly electricity prices for end-users. The number of newly-built photovoltaic power plants fell to 158 in 2011 from nearly 7,000 in 2010. The installed output of wind power plants increased by 3MW to 218MW and of small hydropower plants by 1.5MW to 142MW in 2011. Grid operator CEPS said that solar power plants and wind farms with a combined output of 65MW could be safely connected to the grid this year.
