Croatia's number of registered unemployed increases 4.8% y/y at end-April.

The number of registered unemployed Croatians rose by an annual 4.8% and fell by a monthly 4.8% to 323,722 at end-April, the national employment service said on its website. The figure translates into a jobless rate of around 19.1%, according to IntelliNews calculations, and is down by 0.9pps on the month and up by 0.9pps on the year. The number of newly registered unemployed was 18,968, up by 9.5% on the year. A total of 35,128 individuals were excluded from Croatias unemployment register in April after finding a job, which is a drop of 8.9% compared to a year ago. The statistics office will later release the official unemployment rate for April. IntelliNews comment: It could be expected that the unemployment rate will continue to increase in annual terms, taking into account the projections for lower economic growth this year due to the eurozone debt crisis, which will have a negative effect on the financial sector, especially on the banking sector and its crediting, as well as on personal consumption and trade with the EU.
