Consumer confidence in Slovakia worsens in January.

Consumer confidence in Slovakia continued to deteriorate in January, the statistics office said in its latest consumer barometer survey. The composite indicator declined by 3.1pts m/m to negative 26.6 points The seasonally adjusted indicator stood at minus 27.5 points. Some 63% of the respondents believed that the economic situation in the country deteriorated over the previous twelve months and another 60% were pessimists for the prospects in the coming year. The inflationary pressures are expected to remain in the coming months with 53% of the respondents saying consumer inflation will accelerate and 31% saying prices will keep their pace of increase. The development of the labour market was another issue where the negative outlooks prevailed. Half of the respondents expect the unemployment rate to increase in the next year. The consumer barometer survey was carried out in early January on a sample of 1,152 respondents.
