The chairman of the state tripartite presidency, Haris Silajdzic, and the presidents of neighbouring Serbia and Turkey , Boris Tadic and Abdullah Gul, inked a strategic cooperation declaration in Istanbul following trilateral and bilateral meetings behind closed doors. The foreign ministers of the Balkan countries also attended the meetings. The politicians agreed on a joint vision on the approach to regional policies, which should be based on securing safety, constant political dialogue and preserving the multiethnic, multicultural and multi-religious character of the region. The Istanbul Declaration emphasises the significance of the Peace Implementation Council and points out the positive role of the international community in solving the problems in Bosnia . The meeting also served as preparation for a conference on the Western Balkans, which is scheduled to take place in Sarajevo in early June.
