Bosniaks veto draft bill on referendum.

By bne IntelliNews February 23, 2010
The Bosniak caucus in the upper chamber of the RS parliament, the Council of Peoples, vetoed the draft bill on referendum and citizens initiative, adopted earlier by the lower chamber of the assembly. The Bosniaks explained that the implementation of the law will be in contradiction with the state constitution and would bring into question the vital national interests of the Bosniak people. Thus, the
Constitutional Court
should now decide on the bill. As recalled, the draft removes the technical obstacles for organising a referendum. It is broadly believed that the Serb entity is making its way for a potential secession referendum. However, some analysts note that the RS Parliament motion might be just a move to increase the popularity of the senior ruling SNSD ahead of the approaching general elections.
