Poland's main natural gas producer PGNiG plans to drill 33 prospecting drillings in Poland next year (20 ones in search of conventional gas and 13 in search of shale gas), according to the firm's vice-president Miroslaw Szkaluba. If they prove successful, it may carry out up to 150 drillings in 2-3 years, he added. Szkaluba said that is Polish projects prove more attractive in business terms, the firm will focus on them at the expense of foreign licenses. Howerver, PGNiG announced that it wants to start exploitation in Pakistan in May of 2013. It also wants to drill at least three drillings in Libya and two in Egypt. In Poland, unconventional hydrocarbons will be searched for within PGNiG's current licence areas, mainly in the provinces of Gdansk and Lublin. In its newly published strategy, PGNiG said that it will intensify the exploration for conventional hydrocarbons in Poland, within around 80 licence areas. With a view to optimising its exploration and production efforts abroad, PGNiG will set up a separate business segment, it also pledged.
