Belgrade to boost tourism with €15mn gondola lift

Serbia plans to invest €15mn in the construction of a gondola lift in the capital Belgrade and expects the project to return this sum for less than six years, the trade and tourism ministry said in a statement.

The investment will be made by the government and Belgrade’s local authorities and should help further boost the tourism in the city. The ministry will invest RSD1.2bn (€10mn), while the city of Belgrade will secure RSD600mn.

Belgrade is Serbia's most visited city by tourists, attracting 53% of foreigners.

The 1km lift will link central Kalemegdan park to the Usce neighbourhood where the Sava river flows into the Danube.

The gondola lift will have 25 cabins equipped with LED lighting, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a capacity of 3,000 passengers per hour.
