Banking sector poised for stronger growth in Serbia than in other CEE.

Serbias banking sector has strong potential for growth, as it is still underdeveloped compared to banking industry in other CEE states, Austrias Erste Bank Managing Board Chairman Andreas Treichl said in statement with Beta news agency. Treichl also praised the National bank of Serbia (NBS) for its role in preserving stability of the local banking sector amid crisis. Serbian unit of Austria s Erste bank is one of the 34 lenders operating in the country. The biggest lenders by assets are Serbian unit of Italy s Banca Intesa and state-owned Komercijalna banka.
