Vodafone Albania boosts customer base by 20.3% y/y at end-March.

The local subsidiary of UK mobile telecommunications provider Vodafone increased the number of its subscribers by 20.3% y/y to 1.680mnat end-March, the parent company announced on Tuesday. Prepaid contracts dominated with a 94% share. Vodafone is the second-largest wireless operator on the local market. Its major rival is Greek-owned AMC which reported 2mn customers in Q1. The youngest mobile telecom, Eagle Mobile, which launched local operations in March 2008, has not announced its latest figures yet. We note that Kosovos Post-Telecom (PTK) and a group of local investors, which was awarded with 15-year mobile licence, announced plans to launch a wireless operator next month.
