The U.S. Geological Survey has assessed potential technically recoverable shale gas and shale oil resources in the Polish sector of the Polish-Ukrainian Foredeep basin. The estimated resources, recoverable with existing technology, range from 0 to 4,086bn cubic feet of gas (BCF), with a mean estimate of 1,345 BCF; from 0 to 172mn barrels of oil (MMBO), with a mean estimate of 62 MMBO; and from 0 to 368mn barrels of natural gas liquids (MMBNGL), with a mean estimate of 106 MMBNGL, according to USGS's press release. The wide range of resource estimates underscores the uncertainty inherent in this assessment, it stresses. In April of 2011, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated that Poland's technically recoverable shale gas resources are 187tr cubic feet (or around 5.3tr cu.m.). In March, the State Geological Institute (PIG) estimated that Poland's shale gas deposits are at least around 345-768bn m3. |
