Ukraine's President Victor Yanukovych has declared - on the eve of his visit to Poland - that he would like Poland to join the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline, as reported by the Polish Press Agency. Yanukovych told Polish media in Kiev that still this week, oil would flow towards Belarus via this pipe, i.e. reversing to the originally planned direction, but without Poland's participation. Oil would then be sent to Lithuania and Latvia. "Undoubtedly, Poland is a priority in this respect as it has been since the beginning," the President said. Director general of Sarmatia - the company co-held by firms from Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania and Poland - Sergiy Skrypka told the PAP that there was "good will" for the project and the political support of Ukraine and Poland, but the ultimate decision was up to Sarmatia's shareholders. The Odessa-Brody pipe was built in 1996-2001. From its very beginning, Poland declared its interest in the project, but it has not moved further than feasibility studies stage. tom |
