UAE's bank Emirates NBD said it had plans to expand in the MENA region through mergers, noting that it will set aside more money to cover bad loans this year amid debt restructuring, Reuters quoted the bank's CEO, Rick Pudner, as saying. Punder added that the bank will continue with debt restructuring and plans further provisions. Emirates NBD had said earlier in September last year it had plans to expand in Asia, and announced it would set up a new bank in Malaysia with a capital of USD 96mn that is expected to open this year.
