Group Chairman of Saudi Arabias Abdul Latif Jameel Co. (ALJ), largest independent distributor of Toyota Group, Mohammed Jameel, informs Turkish Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun during a meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia that Toyota plans to produce its new Corolla models in Adapazari plant. Jameel also discloses that ALJ is in talks with Toyotas headquarters in Japan for a capacity increase investment in the plant. Please recall that ALJ purchased a 65% stake in TotoyaSa in 2009 from Sabanci Holding for a consideration of USD 85mn and partnered with Toyota Motor Europe controlling a 25% and Mitsui controlling a 10% stake in Toyota Pazarlama ve Satis. Toyotas Corolla Verso and Auris models are currently manufactured in Adapazari and the plant has a capacity of 150,000 units. As a final note, Toyota Europe planning executive, Duncan McMath stated in last March that Toyota would shift the production of new Corolla model vehicle to Turkey from Japan and South Africa in 2012 and the company might consider increasing the production capacity to 175,000 in Adapazari plant.
