Tourist overnight stays in Macedonia up 11.4% y/y in November 2012.

The number of tourist overnight stays in Macedonia increased by 11.4% y/y to 80,580 in November, accelerating from 2.8% y/y in October, according to data of the statistics office. Overnight stays of domestic tourists expanded by 17.5% y/y to 38,478 in November, reversing an annual drop of 2% in the previous month. Overnight stays of foreign tourists rose by 6.3% y/y to 42,102, slightly speeding up from 6.2% y/y in October. The number of tourists grew by 5.9% y/y to 34,756 in November, accelerating from 4.3% y/y in October. The November number includes 14,244 domestic tourists (up 21.4% y/y) and 20,512 foreign tourists (down 2.7% y/y). The largest numbers of foreign tourists came from Greece (3,919), Serbia (2,885) and Turkey (2,110). In Jan-Nov, the number of overnights edged down by 1% on the year to 2,088,432, while the number of tourists expanded by 2.9% to 632,237. Overnights of foreign tourists were 7.7% higher on the year to 779,119. A certain number of tourists and their overnight stays remain unregistered and are not included in the above figures since these tourists stay in private rooms, cottages or with relatives and friends.
