Study: Iranian office productivity at two hours per day

By bne IntelliNews July 4, 2017

A new study published by the Iranian Parliament Research Centre concludes that office workers in the Islamic Republic actively work for only two hours per day, local business website Bourse Press reported on July 3.

The productivity figure drops even lower for government workers who are famed for shutting down their offices before 3pm on average. Those employees achieve only 22 minutes per day, the report added.

Low salaries, heavy workloads and broken up working weeks were described as key contributors to the problem of efficiency in the country.

The weak figures come as several Iranian professional groups have lobbied the government in recent years to move the working week from Saturday-Thursday to the ‘Dubai system’ of Sunday to Wednesday.

Previous reports suggested a shorter working a week, as well as an overhauling of bank holidays, would increase worker efficiency in the country.

The Iranian Parliament Research Centre study also concluded that on average most people work in Iran work around 40 hours per Persian calendar week, across 5.5 days per week, which includes a half day on Thursdays.
