South Africa largest emerging market foreign direct investor in Africa 2006-2008

SouthAfrica was the largest emerging market foreign direct investor (FDI) in Africa2006-2008, with average South African company investment of USD 2,61bn a yearover the period and participating in 2,250 projects on the continent in 2009.The share of Africa host countries in the outward stock of FDI rose from under5% pre-2000, to 22% in 2008. South African FDI stock in Africa rose to USD10.8bn by 2008 and addressed sectors like construction, financial services,hospitality, infrastructure, mining, retail, telecommunications and tourism.The 20th edition of the World Investment Report (WIR 2010), which features thisinformation, was released by the UN Conference on Trade and Development.
