South Africa have had their chips with potato shortage looming

South Africa faces apotato shortage, the second in three years, due to this years black frost,wiping out 35,000 tons of potatoes in the Limpopo and surrounding areas. Thisis equivalent to some 3mn bags. McCain Foods, which sells frozen potato chips,is one of the main processors to be affected. McCain Foods SA MD Phil Niemansaid that the drastic shortage would result in a huge increase of the price offresh potatoes in the short term.
