The number of tourists to Albania reached some 1.8mn between January and July, which is a very high number, the Albanian tourism ministry said in a note. More than 90% of the foreign visitors were on vacation, while the remaining came on daily trips, the note added. The ministry forecasts a 17% y/y growth in annual figures, up to 3.5mn tourist in 2010. We note that the government identified the development of the local tourism industry as a key priority. The PM has already requested an increase of the financing for the sector in 2011. The 170km-long motorway from Morina on the Kosovo border to Durres played a key role in the higher inflow of tourists.
