March unemployment in Slovakia was 3.88%, which is marginally down from 3.92% in February and 0.41 percentage points lower year on year.
There were 167,493 job applicants in March, which is at its lowest level since the end of 2019, Slovakia’s Centre for Labour, Social Affairs and Family reported.
“It is one of the lowest levels in the last quarter of a century,” Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family Erik Tomas (Hlas party) commented. “The number of unemployed below the age of 29 in March was, in fact, the lowest since the end of 2012,” he added.
The centre has noted that it has launched a project, “Pravo na prve zamestnanie” [Right to first employment], on April 10, designed to boost the creation of new jobs. Employers will receive 90% of monthly costs and not more than €1,318.53 per created job vacancy under the scheme. The cap on one participant is €7,911.20.
“It is a project crafted to the current needs and possibilities of the labour market,” stated the head of the centre, Peter Ormandy.
There were 37,323 job applicants below the age of 29 in March, which was a decrease of 718 month on month, and 1,618 y/y.
