Russia sees possibility to expand South Stream project to Albania.

The Russian government will asses the opportunity to expand the South Stream natural gas pipeline project to the territory of Albania, Albania Daily News reported, citing a statement that Russian deputy foreign minister Vladimir Titov made on his visit to the country. The decision will depend on the evaluation of the countrys need for this type of fuel. Russian energy company Gazprom estimated earlier in this month that the inclusion of Macedonia in the project was very possible. The neighbouring country might transit gas for Albania and Kosovo, if they express interest in such a possibility. Along with Gazproms aspirations to extend the project, participating countries have already declared willingness to cooperate with Albania. South Stream is designed to transfer Russian natural gas to Greece and Italy, passing through Bulgaria. We remind that Albania also takes part in the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is projected to connect the natural gas networks in Europe with suppliers from the Caspian region.
