Russia expels Romanian diplomat on spying charges.

By bne IntelliNews August 17, 2010
Russia expelled Gabriel Grecu, a Romanian diplomat working for the country's Embassy in Moscow after the Federal Security Bureau (the internal counterintelligence agency of the Russian Federation) accused him of having carried ,,hostile activities" against the Russian Federation. FSB claims that the Romanian diplomat, member of the Romanian external intelligence agency SIE, was caught while attempting to obtain classified information from a Russian citizen. The Romanian foreign affairs ministry has not commented yet. Romania's relationships with Russia, complicated by the Bucharest's support extended to the independent governments of the Republic of Moldova (formerly part of USSR now CIS member), have been traditionally cold.
