The support for senior ruling centre-right Civic Platform (PO) amounts to 38%, according to the telephone-based survey by SMG/KRC Millward Brown, commissioned by TV broadcaster TVN. At the same time, the support for the biggest opposition party, centre-left Law and Justice (PiS) was 27%. In the general polls of October, 2007, the PO received 41.5% of votes and the PiS - 32.1%, while in the Homo Homini poll, published earlier this week - at 36.9% and 27.9%, respectively. The SMG/KRC poll also showed that the support for post-communist Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) was 11%, while that of new political entity, Modern Poland (Nowoczesna Polska), a left-leaning, anti-clerical grouping being created by a renowned MP of the PO, Janusz Palikot - at 4% (vs. 3.8% in the Homo Homini poll). Palikot has declared that he targeted 10%. At the same time, the support for the ruling coalition's junior partner, the Polish Peasants' Party (PSL) was 3%, i.e. well below the 5% threshold for parliamentary representation (vs. 5.4% according to Homo Homini). As many as 59% of the polled declared they would cast a vote in parliamentary elections (vs. Homo Homini's 46.0%). tom |
