Romania's installed wind power capacity reached 1.36GW at end-July, according to power grid operator Transelectrica, quoted by Ziarul Financiar daily. Wind plants have been developed in the past two years and their commissioning started last year. Wind farms with installed capacity of 700MW will be added by the end of the year. Thus, the investments, which already total EUR 2bn, will rise further by EUR 1bn. The installed wind power capacity equals the capacity of the country's sole nuclear plant at Cernavoda, which generates some 18% of the country's electricity. Nonetheless, the power generated by wind farms must be at least three times lower, according to our calculations based on the industry average that show lower utilisation rates for wind farms. Besides the wind power capacities, investors also developed 26MW of biomass capacities and PV plants with peak capacity of 2MW. The renewable energy producers cashed already EUR 170mn by July under the tradable green certificates, Transelectrica estimates. |
