Romania grants EUR 100mn aid to Moldova.

President Traian Basescu visiting Republic of Moldova announced a four-year EUR 100mn aid for the neighbouring country, aimed at projects in the education and infrastructure, and also confirmed that the issuing of Romanian passports for Romanian ethnics in Moldova will be increased to 100,000-150,000 this year. Basescu criticised the approach of the early leftist Romanian authorities in early 90s when Romania admitted the independence of Moldovan Republic and withdrew from the negotiations related to the separatist Moldovan Republic of Transnistria. Romania should observe but not officially confirm the border between Romania and Moldova Basescu stressed. In regard to further plans, the Romanian President expressed commitments for supporting Moldova in its plans for European integration.
