RBS Romania reports drop in assets to EUR 2.3bn at end-2009.

The medium-sized local bank RBS Romania reports small decrease in total assets to EUR 2.3bn at the end of last year, citing scarcer lending through the year, and also announces smaller profitability hinting still to positive results. The operating results of the bank were in line with the performance in 2008, provisioning costs excluded the bank explains. RBS Romania reported EUR 17mn net profit in 2008. But the banks officials quoted by Ziarul Financiar daily reported that it set aside EUR 20mn of provisions for the retail loans and EUR 15mn of provisions for the corporate loans last year.
