Putin tells Ukraine to compromise on gas pipelines.

By bne IntelliNews December 21, 2012
Russian president Vladimir Putin calls 'Ukraine's mistake' to refuse transfer its gas transport system to Russia on lease, he has told a news conference. He commented that all what happened in the recent years, including the 2009 gas row, prompted Russia to speed up infrastructure projects to reduce dependence on transit states. Putin believes that with a glance to Russia's dynamic implementation of infrastructure projects for the transportation of its energy resources, the Ukrainian gas transport system loses practicability. He underlined, as of today the Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the gas matter is regulated by the long-term contract till 2019 and its legitimacy is not disputed. At the same time, Putin denied negotiations on Ukraine's joining the Customs Union of the Common Economic Space (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan).
