During his visit to Berlin, PM Vladimir Putin on several occasions elaborated on his vision of closer economic ties between EU and Russia. Putin sees possible future integration of EU and Russia into a continental economic zone of free trade, advanced forms of economic and industrial integration and even a untied currency zone. When speaking of more down-to-earth issues, PM Putin pledged to simplify the access of foreign investors to strategic sectors of Russian economy in the coming few months, as well as to simplify procedures for attracting highly skilled foreign specialists to work in Russia. At the same time he critically noted that access of Russian investors to the global markets are still complicated by political motives and stereotyping. Putin also stressed that energy regulation in EU should be affirmed with Russia as the main supplier of energy sources to the region, as well as called to establish clear rules for foreign investment in European energy sectors.
