Production of new Ford car in Romania to start next fall.

By bne IntelliNews December 10, 2010
Ford will start the production of its new compact model, B-Max, in Romania in the fall of 2011, Ziarul Financiar daily announced. The new car will be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show next spring. The plant will start mass production of the B-Max cars in 2012, when the company expects to produce 150,000 units, 80% of which will be exported. The new model of the US automobile producer will replace the Fusion model, that has been in production since 2002, and will compete directly with Opel Meriva, Citroen C3 Picasso and Renault Modus/Grand Modus. The Romanian plant has only assembled Transit Connect vans over the past couple of years in the plant, previously owned by Korean car maker Daewoo. Ford bought 72.4% of Romanian car parts seller Automobile Craiova, the sole owner of Daewoo Automobile Romania, in March 2008 and later on raised it stake to 97%.
