Poland's registered unemployment rate amounted to 13.0% at the end of October, i.e. did not change vs. the previous month, according to the labour ministry's preliminary estimates, based on job centres' data.
At the end of October, the number of the unemployed reached 2,076 thousand people registered at job centres. Thus, it was down by 6.7 thousand on the month. A year ago, the number of unemployed rose by 15.9 thousand people.
Labour minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that the number of registered unemployed fell by 260 thousand people during the last eight months vs. 173 thousand a year earlier. These results as well as other positive signals from the Polish economy allow to hope that the worst is over on the labour market.
The next year's budget draft stipulates that the registered unemployment rate will be 13.8% at the end of both 2013 and 2014. However, the ministry's representatives said they expect the December of 2013 figure to be below 13.8%.
