Number of bank cards in Croatia increases 0.3% y/y to over 9mn at end-June.

The number of credit and debit cards in Croatia edged up 0.3% on the year to over 9mn at end-June, news agency HINA informed, quoting data presented at the 13th international conference Smartcard 2012. The conference, which takes place on Sept 24-26 in the Adriatic resort of Opatija, was organised by the Croatian Chamber of Economy, lender Zagrebacka Banka and local firm Case Ltd. The value of transactions with bank cards in the country totalled HRK 55.7bn (EUR 7.4mn) at end-June, up 3% on the year. The number of automated teller machines (ATM) stepped up an annual 5.6% to 4,051 at end-June and the number of EFT POS terminals rose 6.2% to 102,785 over the period.
