Mobile operator Plus reports progress in network construction in Albania.

Mobile telecommunications provider Plus Communications has achieved progress in the construction of its mobile network, which will enable the company to start activities as scheduled, Plus CEO Buchnik Moni announced. The company has so far invested some EUR 35mn in building commutation infrastructure including the installment of equipment for 100 antennas. At the same time, the company launched service tests for more than 50 antennas. Currently, the wireless signal of the company covers the capital city of Tirana as well as Durres, Kavajes, Elbasan, the Tirana International Airport and the main road axis in the coutry. Plus plans to continue with its development programme which envisages total investments to reach some EUR 100mn by end-2011. We remind that the operator recently signed agreements with foreign companies for the supply of technical equipment and network construction. Nokia Simens has been selected to supply radio access network and core network equipment, while NEC will provide the backbone equipment and microwave links. Plus will use a bundled product offering from the leading global communication service provider Comverse. The company was established by Kosovos Post-Telecom (PTK) and a group of local investors in June 2009, after winning a 15-year mobile license. The local mobile communication market is dominated by Greek AMC and UKs Vodafone, while Turkish-owned Eagle Mobile launched activities in March 2008.
