Medvedev urges sharp rise in trade with Ukraine.

Medvedev believes annual trade with Ukraine can quickly reach USD 40bn and then climb to USD 100bn. He was speaking in Kiev on Monday after his latest summit with his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich produced an agreement to draft a 10-year cooperation programme. Medvedev hopes that even before this the two countries could clinch deals in a number of key fields including aerospace. He believes they can jointly produce competitive planes that can stay in demand for at least 15 years. We should also note, Ukraine got Russia's support regarding possibility of increasing a quota for Ukrainian carriers for 2010 for carrying out transportation on entering and leaving the third countries. Such an agreement was reached during a working meeting of Deputy Transport Ministers of Ukraine and Russia, Oleksiy Baranov and Nikolay Lyamov in Moscow, the press service of the Ukrainian ministry informs. In late May, the issues about increasing quotas will be submitted for discussion at a meeting of the bipartite Ukraine-Russia mixed commission on international motor transportation. Medvedev has also called for increased cooperation between Gazprom and Naftohaz Ukrainy. According to Medvedev, Ukraine and Russia are presently discussing possible joint projects involving the participation of these companies.
