Macedonias utility ELEM gets offers for electricity imports until mid-March.

By bne IntelliNews February 15, 2012
Macedonia's state-owned power generation company ELEM has received offers at the tender for importing electricity for the period until mid-March, Vecer daily reported quoting utility's director general Vlatko Cingoski. The executive said that the highest offered daytime rate is EUR 160 per MWh, while the whole-day rate is about EUR 132 per MWh. Cingoski adds that the preliminary analysis indicates that the offered price of imports is somewhat lower than the cost of generation via the 210 MW fuel oil-fired power plant Negotino. The decision whether to import should be made today (Feb 15). The executive added that from commercial viewpoint, the imports of electricity is to be preferred, but from a technical viewpoint the better option is using Negotino, which is already prepared for starting and has about 5,000 tonnes of fuel oil reserves. Cingoski also said that they are currently negotiating about additional 3,600 tonnes of fuel oil held by the commodity reserves agency. The cost of electricity generated by the Macedonian thermal power plant is within the range EUR 160-179 per MWh depending on the loading. The executive concluded by saying that they expect stabilization of the situation next month, when the offered prices are about EUR 80 per MWh. We remind that earlier this week Macedonia's government has declared state of energy crisis and recommended energy savings.
