The ruling party VMRO-DPMNE leads in a telephone opinion poll conducted by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation and the Institute for Democracy, Vecer daily reported. The survey had a sample of 1,095 respondents and was conducted on March 8-9. VMRO-DPMNE was supported by 26.6% of the respondents and is followed by opposition party SDSM (14.9%), ethnic Albanian ruling coalition partner DUI (9.9%), opposition ethnic Albanian party DPA (5.6%) and ethnic Albanian party NDP (1.5%). The forthcoming local elections (scheduled for March 24) will likely have a high turnout, as 69.2% of the polled citizens were certain they will vote. When asked for which councillors list they will vote, some 25.7% said they will vote for VMRO-DPMNE, again followed by SDSM (13.7%), DUI (9.7%), DPA (5%) and NDP (1.6%). PM Nikola Gruevski, who is also the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, is the most trusted politician with a support of 28.7%. Gruevski is followed by SDSM leader Branko Crvenkovski (7.7%), DUI leader Ali Ahmeti (7.5%), DPA leader Menduh Thaci (4.3%) and NDP leader Rufi Osmani (1.5%). |
