Macedonian support towards EU membership narrows to 60% - Eurostat.

The support of Macedonians towards EU accession has narrowed by 6 pps on the year to 60%, an opinion poll of Eurostat showed. According to 11%, it would be negative for the country (down by 2 pps), while 27% expressed neutral attitude. The survey respondents, believing that EU membership would be beneficial for the country, accounted for 73%, down by 3 pps. As many as 76% of the survey participants assessed the economic situation as bad and 23% said it was good. Almost half said their households were in a favourable financial situation and 48% replied it was unfavourable. The biggest economic concerns for Macedonians were unemployment (63%) and the economic situation (46%). A total of 24% of Macedonians were optimistic about the next 12 months and 36% expect it to worsen.
