Macedonia's insurance market expands 8.9% y/y in Q1 2011.

Total gross written premiums by insurers in Macedonia increased by 8.9% y/y to MKD 1.59bn (EUR 25.8mn) in the first quarter of the year, according to data of the country's insurance supervision agency. General insurance premiums rose by 7.8% y/y to MKD 1.5bn in Q1 and life insurance premiums increased by 31% to MKD 86.5mn. A total of 11 companies offered general insurance services in Macedonia in Q1. The life isnurance segment was represented by three companies during the period.
