Macedonia rejects sole bid for chemical plant Ohis.

By bne IntelliNews August 20, 2012
The tender commission for the privatisation of Macedonian chemical company Ohis has rejected the sole bid in the sale, submitted by Bulgarian firm Raicommerce, Vecer daily reported. The bid was turned down because it did not meet the tender requirements. The daily quoted sources from the economy ministry as saying that a new tender will be called soon. The latest failed procedure was the governments eighth attempt to sell the Skopje-based company. The economy ministryhad offered 1,477,172 state-owned Ohis shares, representing a 76.575% stake. Four companies bought tender documentation but only Raicommerce submitted a bid. The latest tender allowed the investors to buy the land plot used by the company. In addition, the new owner was not required to carry out land decontamination. However, the tender again prohibited layoffs at the chemical company after its privatisation. Ohis has 805 employees and posted a consolidated net loss of MKD 1.66bn (EUR 27mn) last year.
