Macedonia ranked 73rd in terms of addressing pollution control and natural resource management according to the 2010 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), the preliminary report presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos showed. EPI is prepared by a team of environmental experts at the Yale University and the Columbia University, and this year it encompassed the performance of 163 countries. The ranking is made according to 25 indices, separated into different categories, which include air quality, water resource management, biodiversity, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, and climate change. On a regional scale Macedonia was among the poorest performers, being outpaced by Albania (23rd), Serbia ranked together with Montenegro (29th), Croatia (35th), Slovenia (55th), and Bulgaria (65th). Only Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged behind Macedonia with its 98th position. |
