Macedonia launches discount stores for poor people.

The government launched a project called SOS Shops for discount goods in store chains in the region of Skopje , which will offer cheaper products for people on social welfare, local media reported. The foods will be sold with 20% and personal care products with 25% discount. The government has so far signed agreements with outdoor fruit and vegetable markets operator Skopski Pazar AD (SP Market) and retail chain Tinex to be partners in the project and are negotiating with other stores to join the initiative. The social beneficiaries can buy products for up to MKD 5,000 per month. There are over 53,000 people eligible for social benefits in Macedonia .
