Macedonia boosts CEFTA trade volume in Q1.

By bne IntelliNews May 17, 2010
Macedonia registered an increase in the commercial exchange with the CEFTA member-states in the first quarter of 2010 after a significant deterioration of the trade volumes in 2009, but the domestic economic chamber recommended removal of the non-tariff barriers, as well in order to boost exports and imports. The chamber will propose discussion on the issue at the CEFTA meeting in June. Other major problems according to the chamber are the quality certificates, whose checking is time-consuming and expensive, as well as the lack of a common online data base of the customs on a regional scale. The chamber also suggested expansion of the range of products that are being traded in the region, proposing the addition of industrial products to the currently most popular agriculture products, beverages, metals and textile. One of the upcoming projects attempted to further facilitate the trade within CEFTA is a set of multilateral treaties aimed at approximation of the technical regulations and standards among the members, as well as mutual recognition of the technical documents.
