LV: Latvian unemployment rate of 22.9% highest in EU in January-Eurostat.

According to the report by European Statistical Agency Eurostat, unemployment rate in Latvia in January stood at 22.9%, which was higher than average EU-27 unemployment rate of 9.5% and the highest unemployment rare in EU. January makes a fifth month in a row that highest unemployment in EU is posted in Latvia . According to the Labour Force Survey performed by Central Statistical Bureau, there were 229,400 unemployed or 19.7% of the economically active population in Q4/09 (214,900 or 18.4% in Q3/09). Rate of unemployment was 13.9% in Q1/09, 9.9% in Q4/08, 7.2% in Q3/08, 6.3% in Q2/08 and 6.5% in Q1/08.
