LV: Latvian Railways cargo turnover down by 8.4% in 2010.

As announced by companys representatives, in 2010 Latvian Railways (Latvijas Dzelzce's - LDZ) handled a total of 49.2mn tons of cargo, which makes a 8.4% decrease. Notably, LDZ was the biggest railroad carrier in the Baltics and fifth biggest in EU overall last year. In 2010, 41mn tons handled by the company were import cargo (down by 13%), out of which 37.6mn tons were received through ports (down by 14.8%). LDz was established in 1994. According the fifth annual survey performed IBR Prudentia investment bank, NASDAQ OMX Riga Stock Exchange, Kapitals magazine and Lursoft state registrar database, in 2010 Latvijas Dzelzcels was third most valuable Latvian company after energy producer and distributor Latvenergo and Swedbank, valued at LVL 386mn last year (up by 18% y/y).
